SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Carroll College Volleyball team extended their win-streak on Thursday, earning a pair of wins over Arizona Christian and Benedictine Mesa at the OUAZ Invitational.
The Fighting Saints (8-1) are pushing all the right buttons in the early portion of the 2024 season. Carroll added two more tallies in the "W" column, with wins over a pair of Arizona opponents.
GAME ONE:
At times, the Saints' early match of the tournament appeared that it would be a quick one, but late rallies by the Firestorm would force a full-length back-and-forth battle.
Carroll took the first set, hitting an impressive .308 as a team, as well as the third set, both by a score of 25-21.
The Firestorm won 25-20 in the second set, and fought their way back from a 20-16 hole in the fourth frame to win 25-22 and force a fifth-and-final frame.
In the final set, Carroll raced out to an 11-4 advantage before ultimately winning 15-8, leaving no doubt on their way to their seventh win of the year.
Rachael Stacey (Helena, Mont. / JR) paced the Saints with 12 kills in the match, while
Jansyn Carrizales (Sunnyside, Wash. /. SO) filled in and led the team in assists with 18.
Arizona Christian's Hailey Reynolds led all players with 21 kills in the match.
GAME TWO:
Both teams struggled to some extent on the attack in the night cap, with Carroll hitting just .107 and the Redhawks hitting a meager .029, but Carroll would fight through and roll to a straight-set victory, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18.
Sidney Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / JR) would finish her night with a game-high 9 kills, matching that of the Redhawks' Kylie Bartel.
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / GR) was as stout as ever on the back line, tallying 24 total digs to lead all players, while the Heuiser sisters, Elizabeth (Helena, Mont. / R-JR) and Lauren (Helena, Mont. / SO), each finished with 3 blocks.
Two more Arizona schools are on deck for the Saints on Friday. Carroll will start the day against (RV) Embry-Riddle before ending their tournament against host school Ottawa (Ariz.).
