Spencer Berger (Billings, Mont. / JR) has been named the conference's nomination for the prestigious A.O. Duer Scholarship.
The A.O. Duer Scholarship, named in honor of the NAIA's former executive secretary who served the association for 26 years, has been annually presented since 1967 to a male and female junior student-athlete in any sport who has excelled in scholarship, character, and citizenship.
Berger has been a mainstay on the Carroll special teams units over the past two seasons, handling both place kicking and punt duties for the Fighting Saints. He has averaged 34.25 yards per punt over the past two seasons, and has also knocked down 14 field goals and 35 PAT's in his time at Carroll. In 2023, Berger led all scorers with 49 total points accounted for.
In the fall of 2022, Berger was named NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week following his game-winning field goal in a come-from-behind victory on the road at Eastern Oregon in his first career start.
Berger is a true student-athlete, not only excelling on the field, but in the classroom as well. Berger carries one of the highest GPA's on the entire Football roster with a 3.94 cumulative GPA while studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry.
The A.O. Duer Scholarship winners will be announced later this fall as part of the NAIA Awards Day.
