Marion, Ind. – The Saints had a tremendous Day 2 at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday May 22 through Friday May 24.
Tucker Monaco started the day in the Decathlon in 14th place. After a solid 110m Hurdles, Discus, and Pole Vault, he set a personal record in the Javelin to move into 11th. Despite a large gap in points between 11th and 8th, Monaco set out in the 1500m race in the lead. He never relinquished his first place position and pressed to a time that scored him enough points to jump to 8th place overall and an All-American finish.
The award marks four years in a row for Carroll with an All-American Decathlete. Brett Glaser placed 2nd in 2023, and Lee Walburn was the National Champion in 2021 and 2022.
In his first national meet, Weston Means equaled his personal record in the High Jump. The mark placed him 8th, earning him All-American status. Means was the only freshman in the Top 12 of the Men's High Jump.
Zack Gacnik raced in the semi of the 5,000m Thursday evening. He executed smart running to achieve his second fastest raw 5,000m time to date, but he did not qualify for Friday's final.
On Friday, Josh Smalley will round out the meet for the Saints competing in the Pole Vault at 11:00 am Mountain Time. Smalley has cleared the 6th highest height of the competitors in the field, with four vaulters just ahead of him by 2 cm.
