HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Golf teams are back in action for the first time in the spring season, with both the Men and Women teeing it up at the Master's University Spring Invitational in Llano, Calif. at the Crystalaire Country Club.
The Fighting Saints have ditched the unpredictable spring weather in Montana, and have made their way down south to sunny California for their first official tournament since last October. The Master's Spring Invite will span two days. April 8-9, with all rounds being played at the Crystalaire CC.
With the Frontier Conference Championship approaching at the end of the month, the team will look to get back in the swing of things, literally, at Crystalaire this weekend. The event will be a good measuring stick for the Saints as they enter into championship mode, featuring a number of schools from around the country.
On the Men's side, a young team had their ups and downs in the fall portion of the season.
Caleb Spangler (Havre, Mont. / SO) will slot in as the No.1 player for the Saints this weekend in California, flanked by four freshmen in
TJ Fierling,
JT Slivinski,
Jackson Hammond, and
Michael Wall. The full group of underclassmen have plenty of time in the next four years to grow, and getting these events under their belt early in their careers will be key for their development moving forward.
The Carroll Women had a little more consistent play in the fall. Senior
Katie Fagg (Missoula, Mont.) has been the anchor for the Saints for the past several seasons, and will look to close out her Carroll career with a strong spring.
Celi Chapman (Montana City, Mont. / FR) has burst onto the scene in the Frontier Conference, finishing top-10 in several events last fall. The pair are one of the best 1-2 combos in the conference, and with a good outing from
Stella Claridge, Katie Williams, and
Megan Baxter the Saints are legitimate contenders at any event.
Live scoring for the event will not be used, but be sure to visit www.carrollathletics.com each night for a recap of the days action, and to stay up to date on everything going on in Carroll Athletics.
