Fighting Saints Grab Two at Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Carroll College Softball team picked up another pair of Cascade Collegiate Conference wins on Friday, knocking off Warner Pacific in a pair of games in Portland.

The Fighting Saints (15-14-1, 9-7) are officially above .500, scoring 10 runs in a pair of wins over the Knights (2-24, 1-16) in the Rose City on Friday.

GAME ONE:
Following a scoreless two innings to start the game, Carroll broke things open in the top half of the third. Kaitlynn Ayers (Twin Falls, Idaho / SR), a First Team All-CCC selection a year ago, rattled a double down the left field line, driving home three runs to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. Two batters later Brookelynn Jackson (Keizer, Ore. / FR) also hit a two-bagger, driving home one more run to bring the lead to 4-0. The Knights did manage to get one back in the bottom half of the frame, but Carroll brought a 4-1 lead into the fourth.

Morgan Sunchild (Great Falls, Mont. / SO) popped one up beyond third in the fourth inning, allowing another Carroll run to cross the plate to extend the lead to 5-1.

Kenna Thomas (Belgrade, Mont. / JR) put the icing on the morning game win with an RBI single in the seventh inning to put Carroll in front 6-1, where things would finish.

Sunchild, Thomas, and Alyssa Lybbert (Las Vegas, Nev. JR) each finished with two hits in the game, while Kennedy Venner continued her strong play with a 13 strikeout complete game win.

GAME TWO:
A four run first inning would be more than enough for the game two win for the Saints. An Alyssa Lybbert RBI double opened the scoring in the top half of the opening frame, and then Morgan Sunchild brought her home just one batter later. Ellie Koerber (Billings, Mont. / JR) brought home one more run with a sac-fly to center, before Layne Bauer (Missoula, Mont. / SR) grabbed an RBi single to wrap up the big inning for the Saints.

Maddie Gamble gave the Knights their only run of the game in the sixth inning with an RBI single, but the effort would fall well short of enough and Carroll would grab their ninth CCC win of the year.

A nine-hit effort on the part of the Saints was backed up by a five strikeout outing from Abbie Amend (Spokane, Wash. / SO).

The Saints and Knights will return to the field tomorrow morning for another two games to wrap up the weekend series.
