VICTORIA, Texas - The Carroll College Golf teams will tee it up at the 2024 Frontier/Red River Conference Championships this week at the historic Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas, looking to finish the season strong.
After a long winter, the Fighting Saints find themselves 1,800 miles away in the Southeast part of Texas for their final scheduled event of the season.
This past summer, the Frontier and Red River Conferences joined forces, providing stability for the golf-playing schools in each respective conference, and ensuring an auto-bid for the upcoming NAIA National Championship for the winning teams and individuals on both the Men's and Women's fronts.
On the Men's side, Carroll, Montana Tech, Rocky Mountain, and Providence will be competing alongside Houston-Victoria, University of the Southwest, Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M San Antonio, and Louisiana Christian.
The Women's event features those same four Frontier schools, as well as Our Lady of the Lake and Houston - Victoria.
Both the Carroll Men and Women's teams are primarily underclassmen, and the young groups are ready to make a splash in Texas.Â
On the Women's side,
Celi Chapman (Montana City, Mont. / FR) has been a steady presence in her first season, while mainstay
Katie Fagg (Missoula, Mont. / SR) will be playing her fifth and final Frontier Championship, looking to repeat the success of the 2021 team that won the conference crown.
Caleb Spangler (Havre, Mont. / SO) is the lone second-year player making the start this weekend for Carroll on the Men's side, where he'll be flanked by a quartet of promising freshmen, including
Jackson Hammond (Scottsdale, Ariz. / FR), who took medalist honors at the Capital City Dual a couple of weeks ago in Helena.
The Saints will be looping Victoria Country Club, a classic tree-lined club, playing to just under 6,800 yards from the tips. The club is in its centennial year, having started as a nine-hole track in 1924.
Both the Men and Women will play 18 holes of five-count-four play for each of the next three days. Monday and Tuesday's rounds will tee-off in a 7:30 a.m. (MDT) shotgun, while Wednesday will start at 7:00 a.m.
