Men's Track and Field | 03/21/24 | 9:32 AM
Helena, Mont. – The Carroll College track and field team opens the outdoor season at the Al Manuel Invite in Missoula, Mont. on Friday March 22.
The meet has been condensed to a single day due to weather. The Fighting Saints will compete against the University of Montana, Montana Tech, University of Providence and a limited number of athletes from Montana State and other Frontier Conference Schools.
The Saints will send a total of 24 women and 26 men to the meet. This will be the opening competition for Carroll's Hammer (Kayla Botkin, Tim Sellars) and Javelin (Reuben Hornby, Sorren Reese, Taliana Miller, Emily Shumaker) throwers. There will be a focus on the 3000m Steeplechase which is only available at certain meets this season. Peter Rehberger, Luke Decker, Oliver Morris, Grace Schopp, and Nina Badger will compete in the steeple for the first time.
Several indoor national qualifiers from this winter will compete. Brycen Gardner, who qualified for the 3000m indoors, will race the 3000m Steeplechase. He qualified for outdoor nationals in the event last spring. Madalen Shipman - a 600m qualifier this winter - will run the 800m. Additionally, Josh Smalley has qualified for nationals previously in the Pole Vault and Hornby in the Javelin.
"It is always exciting to us to transition to outdoor and start putting our eyes on preparing for the Frontier Conference Championships in early May," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "We're happy for the shift to Friday so we can really get after it in some great conditions with strong competition," he added.
On Friday, field events begin at 10:30 am Mountain Time with Saints competing in the hammer. Running events will begin at 1:30 pm.
