HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Basketball team utilized a complete team effort to upend Providence, 89-74 on Thursday night at the PE Center.
The Fighting Saints (16-9, 10-2) jumped on the Argonauts (12-13, 5-7) early, and didn't let up as they cruised to a 15-point win on Thursday evening/
Carrroll College is the real deal. All they have done in 2024 is gone 10-2 in Frontier Conference play, far exceeding the expectations of the coaches around the league who picked them near the bottom of the pile in the Preseason Frontier Poll.
A tight game in the opening minutes broke in favor of the Saints near the midway point of the first half. Back-to-back
Isaiah Moore (Fairfield, Calif. / SO) three-pointers around the ten-minute mark would give Carroll an 11-point lead with nine minutes left in the half. Moore made it eight straight points on the next Carroll possession, providing a terrific boost off of the bench for the Saints.
In the waning moments of the half
Murat Guzelocak (Istanbul, Turkey / SR) connected with
Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / JR) from the Subaru logo near midcourt, and Cook buried the longest three-pointer of the season to give Carroll a 46-34 lead at the break.
Out of the half, Carroll continued to control the game.
Trent Rogers (Bozeman, Mont. / SO) banked home a big three pointer to give Carroll its largest lead of the night 18 points with 13 minutes remaining.
James Lang drilled a three at the seven-minute mark to Give the Saints a 19-point advantage, and Carroll could put things in cruise control from there.
The bulk of the Carroll roster found minutes in the game, with
Riley Navarro (Carson City, Nev. R-SO) scoring the final points for the Saints to cap the 15-point win.
Andrew Cook led all scorers, finishing with 25 points, six rebounds, and six assists, to the surprise of no one in the gym.
James Lang (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) scored 16, and both Isaiah and Kendall (Dayton, Ohio / JR) added double-digit points with 10 and 11 points respectively to help round out the Carroll top-scorers.
Both Jevon Burton and Jaylin Reed finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Argos in defeat.
All of Carroll's attention is now diverted towards a third matchup with No. 10 Montana Tech on Saturday. Should the Saints pull out the road win, they would be tied atop the Frontier standings and have a legitimate shot at the Frontier title.
