HELENA, Mont. - The No. 21-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team capped the calendar year with a decisive 87-44 win over Keyano College (Can.) on Monday afternoon at the Carroll College PE Center.
The Fighting Saints (8-5) raced out to large early lead for the second day in a row, giving a slew of younger players on-court experience in a 33-point rout of the Huskies.
Addi Ekstrom (Bozeman, Mont. / SR), who narrowly missed a double-double in yesterday's game by just one point, put up 13 first quarter points, going 5-6 from the floor and 3-3 from deep. Seven points and five rebounds from Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week WIlla Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-JR) gave the Saints a comfy 24-11 lead after one.
Ekstrom, Albrecht, and
Kyndall Keller (Havre, Mont. / R-SR) combined for 16 points in the second quarter, and Carroll would hold Keyano to just eight points in the frame to carry a 50-19 lead heading into the break. The team had one of their most efficient quarters of the season, shooting a combined 64.3 percent from the field.
With the game well in-hand, the Saints went to the bench in the second half. Production dipped in the third, but a stout defensive effort from Carroll would see the Saints once again out-score their opponents (16-12) and extend their lead heading into the final ten minutes.
Eight different Saints, including three freshmen, would score a combined 21 points in the fourth quarter, led by
Gracie Millimen's (Manhattan, Mont. / FR) four points to help seal the deal on the second-straight win over Canadian competition, 87-44.
Ekstrom led all scorers with 21 points on the afternoon. Albrecht continued her stellar play, coming up one rebound short of a 15-point double-double in just 20 minutes of work.Â
Elliot Hencz (Spokane, Wash. / R-SO) had her best game as a Saint, scoring nine while adding a rebound and pair of assists, while
Ellie Denny (Fairfield, Wash. / SO) scored six, rebounded four shots, and had four assists.
The Huskies were led by Kaylynn Tucker's 14 point performance.
Carroll will now turn their attention towards the Frontier Conference regular season, looking to secure their third-consecutive Frontier Conference title starting with a Saturday showdown in Helena against Providence later this week.
