MEDFORD, Ore. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team fought for 107 minutes, but saw their season come to a close in a hard-fought double overtime loss to Rocky Mountain College in a quarterfinal match of the CCC Championship in Medford, Ore. on Sunday.
The Fighting Saints (10-5-4) gave everything they had, but were spurned by a late Battlin' Bear (9-5-2) goal, ending their postseason tournament.
Carroll came out aggressive, putting up five shots in the opening 18 minutes. None of the five early shots would find net, however, and the teams would enter the half tied at 0-0.
The second half saw both sides put up shot-after-shot, with each team finishing the frame with eight second half shots. Again, nothing found net and the two sides would play their first overtime game of the season.
Following another scoreless 10-minute overtime period, the match went into a golden goal second OT.
In the 107th minute Rocky found the breakthrough, as Emma Lensing scored a one-timer off a cross from Charlize Davis to end the marathon battle.
Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SO) was outstanding in net all day, finishing with a match-high six saves.
In total, both teams finished with 15 shots each, while Rocky would put three more shots on goal than the Saints (RMC 7, CC 4).
