HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Golf teams wrapped up play at their lone home event of the season at Bill Roberts Golf Course on Tuesday, with both the Men and Women finishing third in the team competition.
Despite the third-place team finish, the Carroll Women put together perhaps the best two-day event in program history. Monday afternoon's team-record 309 was backed up with another impressive showing, as the team finished with a second round 314, bringing their two-day total at 623 (+47).
Celi Chapman (Montana City, Mont. / SO) had an outstanding week, firing back-to-back rounds of 75 (+6 total) to finish in second place in the individual competition, leading the Saints. Behind her,
Stella Claridge (Kalispell, Mont. / JR) had a strong showing as well. The junior went 77-76 (+9) for the week en route to an eighth-place finish on the individual side. Ellie and
Alli Stastny (Murtaugh, Idaho / FR) rounded out the Carroll scorers with rounds of 81 and 82 on the afternoon, finishing No. 14 and 18, respectively.Â
With incomplete data on hand, the two-day total of 623 is believed to be the lowest team score in program history.
Lindsay Cook (Bozeman, Mont. / FR) had a terrific tournament, going 78-79 (+13 total) to finish No. 11 for the event. Cook's stellar week helped lead the Carroll (B) team to a fourth place finish at 684, 16 strokes better than Providence.
Rocky Mountain College won the team event, just 12 strokes ahead of the Saints at 611 (+35). Providence's Laila Jalil earned medalist honors, shooting 73-73 (+2 total).
The Carroll Men also earned a third place finish in their team competition, shooting a three-round total of 904 (+44) for their best finish of the season.
JT Slivinski (Montpelier, Idaho / SO) had the round of the tournament for the Saints on Tuesday. The sophomore fired a final round 69 (-3) to finish at six-over-par for the event, good enough for 13th place.Â
For the first time all season, all four Carroll Men posted rounds in the 70's or lower, as
Tanner Cromwell (Anaconda, Mont. / FR),
Hudson Reinke (Filer, Idaho / FR), and
TJ Fierling (North Bend, Wash. / SO) shot final round scores of 73, 75, and 77, respectively.
Jackson Hammond was the top-placing Saint at the event, going 72-70-75 (+1) for a ninth-place finish in the tournament from his one-spot on the Carroll (B) team.
Riley Stansberry (Spokane, Wash. / SR) also had a good week, finishing No. 17 in the event with a three-round total of +10.
Rocky Mountain College dominated the Men's team event, finishing at 833 (-27) as a team, while Kristjan Burkelca won medalist honors with a three-round total of 203 (-11).
A long winter awaits the Fighting Saints, as this week's event wraps up the Fall portion of the Frontier Conference wrap-around schedule. The Saints will return to the course in the spring, looking to make some noise at the Frontier Conference Championships in April.
