HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Football team returns to Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium this afternoon, hosting MSU-Northern at 1 p.m. to close out the first half of the 2024 season.
The Fighting Saints (3-1, 2-0) are winners of three-straight, and looking to add to it this afternoon as they take on the Lights (0-3, 0-1).
Saturday's game will be one of significance for the college, as the Football team will be the first of three Carroll teams to play a home game in Helena on Saturday. Today marks the official "grand opening" of the newly-renovated Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium, as it is the first opportunity for the storied facility to host Football, as well as two soccer games in the same evening.
Kicking things off, the Football team aims to claim their 12th-straight win over MSU-Northern.
Carroll has dominated the series, winning 35 of the 37 games between the two teams dating back to the 2003 season, with the vast majority of the wins coming by three scores or more.
In the last three meetings, Carroll has held the Lights to a total of just 6 points, a stat that has the Fighting Saints defense licking their chops. The Saints enter the afternoon tilt having pitched back-to-back shutouts, and the Saints have their eyes set on a potential third. No Carroll team has posted three-straight shutouts since the 2007 season.
In the last three games, Carroll's defense has held their opponents to fewer than 200 yards of total offense. Northern's triple-option offense enters the week averaging 197.7 yards of offense per game.
Offensively, the Saints are finding their groove. Carroll has scored 80 unanswered points in the last two games, and the Saints sit at No. 38 in the NAIA with 391.0 yards of offense per game.
Jack Prka (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho / SR) has been highly efficient in his four starts this season. The senior is completing over 70 percent of his passes on the year, and has four touchdowns through the air.
Kick off for today's game is slated for 1 p.m., and a tape-delay broadcast will be aired on SWX stations across Montana later this evening.
