Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Carroll Women Get Back on Track with 1-0 Shutout

HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Women's Soccer team improved to 5-0-1 at Nelson Stadium on Friday, blanking Northwest 1-0 on a brisk Fall afternoon.

The Fighting Saints (8-4-4, 5-3-2) righted the ship in their first home game in three weeks, shutting out the Eagles (4-2-4, 3-2-4).

As has been the case with many Carroll games to this point of the year, the Saints were the more aggressive side in the first half.

Carroll out-shot Northwest 8-2 in the opening frame, but Katie Snow saved all six of the shots on goal to bring the game into the half scoreless.

The pressure would continue from the Carroll side in the second half, and in the 67th minute the Saints would be rewarded for their efforts.

Emily Funseth (Great Falls, Mont. / GR) beat the Eagles' back line on a beautiful ball in from Ella Kuenzli (Colorado Springs, Colo. / JR). Funseth broke away from the last defender and found net for the game's only goal, leading to the 1-0 win for Carroll.

Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SO) made only one save in the contest, but it was a meaningful one, keeping Northwest from evening the score in the late stages of the match.

Carroll will look to string wins together as they welcome Evergreen State to the new Valley Bank Field turf at 2 p.m.
