Saints Post Second-Consecutive Shutout, Top Providence 3-0

HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team earned their second straight shutout victory to begin the season on Monday, beating Providence 3-0 in a non-conference matchup at Nelson Stadium.

The Fighting Saints (2-0-0) picked up right where they left off in their previous game, continuing to show a potent attacking offense in a 3-0 win over Providence (1-3-0) on Monday afternoon.

A gray and gloomy day in Helena saw a break in the rain for nearly the entirety of Monday's non-conference matchup between Montana's two closest soccer sponsoring schools.

Carroll was in control from the opening whistle in the matinee, applying heavy pressure for 90 minutes. For the second straight game, Carroll fired over 25 shots in the game (26), with 50 percent being on net (13 SOG).

Fortune would favor the Saints in the 16th minute. A Delaney Moczan (Las Vegas, Nev. / FR) attempt would rattle off of a Providence defender, and past the Argo keeper for an own goal to put Carroll on top 1-0.

Just nine minutes into the second half, the Saints would find an insurance goal. Jaymee Sheridan (Helena, Mont. / JR) hit a beautiful cross into the box where Michenna George (Frenchtown, Mont. / FR) would get just enough power behind a shot to sneak one past the keeper and put Carroll ahead 2-0. George's goal marked the first of her young collegiate career.

In the 76th minute, Carroll would provide the final blow on a deep header from Ella Kuenzli (Colorado Springs, Colo. / SO). Kuenzli took a feed from Hayley Smith (Woods Cross, Utah / FR) and lofted the ball high off of the cross bar and down into the bottom right corner of the net to give Carroll its deciding third goal. Much like George, Keunzli's goal was the first of her collegiate career.

Katie Gilb (Spokane, Wash. / FR) saw very little action, but picked up one save and a shutout in her collegiate debut.

Shea Waters provided the Argos' lone shot on goal in the contest.

Up next, Carroll will head to Billings, Mont. on Thursday for a showdown with NCAA Division II opponent, Black Hills State (S.D.).
