HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team will head to Dillon, Mont. this afternoon for their second Frontier Conference game of the season this evening when they square off with Montana Western at 7 p.m.
The Fighting Saints (5-12, 0-1) are off to a rocky start, but will look to get things back on track this evening against the Bulldogs (14-1, 1-0).
A slew of early season injuries have put the Saints in an uncomfortable position entering the first week of conference play. Carroll, historically a team that finds themselves at, or near, the top of the Frontier standings, will have to dig their way out of a hole in 2023. A very young Carroll roster, only three seniors seeing significant action at this point in the season, will have to learn on the fly for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Several freshman,
Lauren Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / FR),
McKaila Balcom (Pasco, Wash. / FR),
Norah Allen (Great Falls, Mont. / FR) have been thrust into the rotation nad have performed admirably ot this point, but the Carroll underclassmen as a whole will need to see continued growth if they hope to make a run at another Frontier Title.
Sidney Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / SO) has been the top attacker for the Saints in 2023, a member of the 2022 Frontier All-Freshman team, has 134 kills on the season (2.34 kills/set).
The Bulldogs, who knocked Carroll out of the 2022 Frontier Conference tournament, are off to one of their best starts in school history at 14-1.
