HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Soccer team picked up their third consecutive CCC win, blanking Multnomah 2-0 on Thursday afternoon inside Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (3-1-1, 3-0) shut out the Lions (2-5, 0-3) on Thursday, staying hot and keeping their 2023 CCC record at a perfect 3-0.
A cold, wet, gray day at Nelson Stadium set the backdrop for Carroll's CCC home opener. While the chilly weather kept some of the normal fan base at home, it did not slow down the Fighting Saints.
The first half was a game of cat-and-mouse, with both teams attempting to feel each other out. Neither team was able to set up a real scoring opportunity, and the game would enter the halftime break tied at 0-0.
Things would change quickly in the second half.
Just two minutes into the second half of play, Carroll's captain,
Caleb Hoxie (Helena, Mont. / SR) netted a beautiful header off of the left-field cross from
Adam Webster (Las Vegas, Nev. / SO). Hoxie's header would put Carroll in front 1-0.
A chippy period would ensue, with both teams vying for calls from the officiating crew.
After a Multnomah red card in the 82nd minute, Hoxie would strike again.
Walker Jump (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho / SO) had a decent look on a free kick from just outside the box, and Carroll's leader, Hoxie, would find the rebound and bury the insurance goal to give Carroll a 2-0 lead with just minutes remaining.
The 2-0 win marks the third straight clean sheet for the Saints.
Juan Muniz Navarette (Hermiston, Ore. / SO) earned yet another complete game shut out, this one coming without a save due in large part to the Carroll game-plan and attack.
The Saints will return to Nelson Stadium tomorrow for a tilt with Warner Pacific (Ore.) at 2 p.m.
