Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Saints Split Pair on Second Day of San Antonio Shindig

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Carroll College Volleyball Team wrapped up their play at the 2023 San Antonio, Texas with a four-set win over Our Lady of the Lake (Texas), and a five-set loss to Oklahoma City.

After a rough Friday, the Fighting Saints (4-4) picked up a win over host school, Our Lady of the Lake, in what would be the first of a rare back-to-back game scenario. After a four-set opener, the Saints would fall in five sets to Oklahoma City in their final match of the tournament.

CARROLL vs. OLLU

In a battle of the Saints, the Fighting variety would emerge victorious.

The schools, sharing the same moniker, found themselves all square after two sets. OLLU took the opener, 25-22, with Carroll flipping the score in the second set, winning 25-22 and evening things up at 1-1.

A 5-1 run for the Carroll in the third set would give them all the advantage needed, and they would roll to a 25-18 win in the third.

In recent memory, the Fighting Saints have had trouble closing out sets, and more importantly matches. This would not be the case in the opening match, as Carroll closed out the victory with a 25-21 set win.

Sindey Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / FR) and Mara Lynch (Bozeman, Mont. / SR) continued to be Carroll's best attackers this weekend, each finishing with 13 kills.

Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) posted 33 digs, and Maddie Wilkes (Pocatello, Idaho / SR) was credited with 30 assists to help lead Carroll to the morning match win.

CARROLL vs. OKLAHOMA CITY

The second match of the back-to-back swing for the Saints was very competitive, but would not fall in their favor.

Oklahoma City, albeit close, managed to take advantage of a tired Carroll squad in the two opening frames. The Stars won each, 25-23.

Not wanting to leave the event without a fight, Carroll responded.

The Saints won both the third (25-21) and fourth sets (25-23), extending the match and forcing a deciding fifth frame. The run would end for the Saints there however, as Oklahoma City breezed to a 15-8 win in the final set.

Lynch again performed at a high level, the senior leader posted a team-high 14 kills. Lauren Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / FR) racked up 5 blocks, and Carr had another good match in the back row, tallying 41 digs.

The Saints will return home to Helena for a week of practice before heading to sunny San Diego, California next weekend for the Saint Katherine Invite.
