HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team is back in action this weekend after a successful opening weekend at home. Carroll is in San Antonio, Texas for the 2023 San Antonio Shindig, hosted by Our Lady of the Lake University.
The Fighting Saints (3-1) hit the road for what will be their longest travel distance of the season, down to the heart of Texas for a weekend of volleyball against some unfamiliar opponents.
Carroll will play four games over the course of the next two days, and look to gain valuable experience for a young rotation.
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) was named the Frontier Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after stuffing the stat sheets last weekend in Helena (92 digs, 7.08 digs per set).
Mara Lynch (Bozeman, Mont. / SR), another senior leader for the Saints, also performed well at the Big Sky Challenge where she finished with 38 total kills (2.92 kills per set).Â
Sidney Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / SO), who leads the Saints in kills through four games (41), will look to continue her hot start to the year.
Carroll, dealing with a number of early season injuries, saw big performances from a pair of big sky state standouts,
Lauren Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / FR) and
Norah Allen (Great Falls, Mont. / FR), and hope the two continue to contribute towards the 2023 campaign.
The Saints will open the tournament up with a 1 p.m. matchup with Southwest Assemblies of God University (Texas), and end day one with a match against defending NAIA National Champion, Jamestown (N.D.) at 5 p.m. local time.
Tomorrow, Carroll will hit the court again at 11 a.m. against the host school OLLU, with a quick turnaround to face Oklahoma City University at 1:30 to end their trip.
All four of this weekend's games will be streamed live
