Carroll Softball Completes Series Sweep of Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Carroll College Softball team finished off a strong weekend showing with two more wins over Warner Pacific to complete the series sweep in their second weekend of Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Saturday.

The Fighting Saints (7-8, 3-3) continued to score runs at a high clip on Saturday, totaling 17 runs in two wins over Warner Pacific (0-8, 0-6) to even their CCC record at .500.

Alyssa Lybbert (Las Vegas, Nev. / SO) opened the scoring for the Saints. Her single in the top of the first inning scored one run, and a Jessica Nimmo (Las Vegas, Nev. / SR) double would score two more to give Carroll the early 3-0 lead.

The Saints would get two more runs in the fourth inning, and three runs in an explosive fifth inning. Amber Countryman (Helena, Mont. / SO) started the fifth inning rally with a solo home run. Kaitlynn Ayers (Twin Falls, Idaho / JR) and Haylee Curry (Belgrade, Mont. / SR) would each pick up RBI's to put a cap on the five inning win.

Amber Brewer (Phoenix, Ariz. / SR) had another great day at the plate, going 3-4 with three runs. Nimmo finished 2-3 with two RBI's.

Abbie Amend (Spokane, Wash. / FR) was credited with the win, striking out four batters in her three innings of work.

The second game of the day started with a bang, literally. Alyssa Lybbert again put Carroll on the board first, this time with a three-run jack to put Carroll up 3-0 after one.

A Jessica Nimmo double knocked in one run in the top half of the second to kickstart a rally. Carroll would score four runs in the second, with three coming as a result of some poor field work by the Knights. Carroll would lead 7-0 after two.

Warner Pacific would score one run in the fourth inning, before a fifth inning rally of their own. A two-run home run courtesy of Emma Foster would cap off a four-run fifth inning for the Knights.

Carroll would find a way to close things out, however, going on to win 7-5.

Alyssa Lybbert went 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, and Kenna Thomas (Belgrade, Mont. / SO) went 2-2 with one RBI to lead the Saints.

Abby Hanley (Las Vegas, Nev. / SR) picked up the win, with Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / FR) earning a save.

Carroll will once again hit the road next weekend, making the trek to Klamath Falls, Ore. for a series with No. 7 Oregon Tech.
