Cold Bats Lead to Losses for Carroll Softball

CALDWELL, Idaho. - The Carroll College Softball team lost games three and four of their Cascade Collegiate Conference opening weekend series to No. 13 College of Idaho on Saturday in Caldwell.

The Fighting Saints (3-8, 0-3) were unable to find a win in their CCC opening series, dropping their final two games of the series today to No. 13 College of Idaho (14-0, 3-0).

Saturday's morning game played out nearly identical to a pair of games on Friday, a tight game broken open in the late innings.

The College of Idaho put one run on the board early in the top half of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Kirsten Norris (Phoenix, Ariz. / SR) laid down a sacrifice bunt in the bottom half of the fourth inning, allowing Annie Davidson (Boise, Idaho / SR) to score and tie things up at 1-1.

A three-run home run by Katelyn Wilfert would cap off a four-run fifth inning for the Yotes, and that would be all the breathing room they would need. They added one additional run in the sixth inning on their way to a 6-1 win.

As has been the case in nearly all of Carroll's losses on the year, the Saints were unable to find their rhythm at the plate. Carroll went just 4-25 from the plate as a team.

Things would not get any better for the Saints in the second game of the day.

The Yotes' Haley Loffer homered in the top of the first inning, and they would get one additional run in the opening frame. The Yotes then proceeded to add four more runs in the second inning, and three in the fifth inning to run away with the 9-0 win.

Whitney Durocher (Choteau, Mont. / SR) went 2-2 in the afternoon game, providing the only two hits in the game for the Saints (2-18 team).

Carroll will return to Helena before another long road trip next weekend. The Saints will head to Portland, Ore. for a series with Warner Pacific, March 3-4.
