Late Goal Burns Carroll Women at CCC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team fell on a late-stage goal to Southern Oregon in the opening round of the CCC Championship on Monday evening.

The Fighting Saints (11-2-4) battled over 80 minutes before a late-game goal from the Raiders (9-6-4) would break a scoreless tie and knock Carroll out of the tournament.

A tightly-contested match throughout, the Saints would enter the halftime break holding a slim lead in shots (3-1).

The action would pick up in the second half, with Carroll posting six shots to SOU's four. Unfortunately for the Saints, one of those four Raider shots would find the back of the net,

In the 84th minute, Mia Ammons would score her fourth goal of the year to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Carroll would out up two more attempts over the final six minutes, but neither attempt would land, and Southern Oregon would pull off the upset in the opening round.

The short-lived tournament run puts an end to one of the most successful seasons in recent memory for the Saints.

The Saints, who have just two losses on their resume, will now wait out the remainder of the tournament and hope to hear their name called as an at-large bid to the NAIA Championship.
