HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Basketball team capped a successful weekend with a 75-57 win over Corban (Ore.) to close out the 2023 Comfort Suites Classic in Helena on Saturday.
The Fighting Saints (2-2) look to be really gelling as team, playing complimentary basketball as evidenced by their win over the Warriors (2-2).
Carroll jumped all over the Warriors to open the game. The Saints raced out to a 19-3 lead over the first eight minutes of the game. A veteran group of Corban players wouldn't crumble under the pressure however, and the Warriors would ride 17 first half points from Aundree Polk to pull within one of the Saints at the break, 34-33.
Polk's 17 first half points were rivaled by only
Andrew Cook's (Huntington Beach, Calif. / JR) 16 points in the opening frame. Cook went a perfect 6-6 from the field in the first half.
With just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, Corban would take its first lead of the contest, 49-48. The Warriors lead would grow to just three points at its largest, but the final nine minutes would belong to the Saints.
Carroll would finish the game much like they started, putting together a strong 25-8 run over the final nine minutes to secure their second win of the year.
Andrew Cook finished his big night with a 29 point, ten rebound double-double.
Zane Foster (Puyallup, Wash. / JR) gave the Carroll faithful plenty to cheer about, finishing his evening with five show-stopping blocks, eight rebounds, and eight points.
Kendall Moore (Dayton, Ohio / JR) had a great night against his former team, scoring 15 points and adding a pair of assists.
Up next for the Saints is a trip to La Grande, Ore. next weekend where they will play both Eastern Oregon and Walla Walla.
