HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team will play (RV) Rocky Mountain College an opening round game of the 2023 Frontier Conference Volleyball tournament this afternoon at 1 p.m. in Great Falls.
The Fighting Saints (5-21, 0-10) have new life, and a fresh shot at continuing their season this weekend in Great Falls at the Frontier tournament. First up on the bracket are the Battlin' Bears (19-11, 6-4) in the events opening match.
Carroll and Rocky met twice in the regular season, with the Bears winning both matches, 3-0 and 3-1.
Rocky enters the tournament in the "receiving votes" portion of the final NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Poll of the season, and are the No. 2-seed in the postseason event.
The Saints had a rough 2023 season, finishing winless in conference play, but will look to erase all of that from their mind and take things one set at a time in this weekend's win-or-go home format.
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) finished the season as the nation's leader in digs per set (6.85), and will look to put a cap on her impressive individual season with a string of team victories at the conference tournament.
Mara Lynch (Bozeman, Mont. / SR) ended the season as hot as any player in the Frontier. Lynch leads the Saints in kills (235) and kills per set (2.47) on the season, and has been just as good defensively as of late.
Should the Saints win the afternoon contest, they will turn around and play a semi-final match this evening against either Providence or Montana Tech.
First serve for the opening round match is set for 1 p.m. from the McLaughlin Center on the campus of host-school Providence.
