HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team will host Montana Western in the warmth of the Carroll College PE Center this evening at 7 p.m. while an October snow falls outside.
The Fighting Saints (5-17, 0-6) will have another opportunity at grabbing their first conference win of the season tonight when they welcome the Bulldogs (17-3, 4-2) to the PE Center for the lone time in 2023.
The pair have played only once this season, a three set victory for the Bulldogs in Dillon last month.
Since the previous meeting, the Saints have shown significant signs of improvement, with a young group learning how to play complimentary to their teammates, and adjusting to the pace of the collegiate game.
Sidney Gulick (Kalispell, Mont. / SO) has been the best offensive weapon for the Saints in 2023. Gulick, a member of the 2022 Frontier Conference All-Freshman team, has 190 kills on the year, averaging 2.44 kills per set.
Jansyn Carrizales (Sunnyside, Wash. / FR), who earned court time following an impressive showing during the JV season, has been promising, leading all active players with 4.95 assists per set.
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) remains one of the best defenders in the nation, and she enters the game still leading the NAIA in digs per set (7.06).
With the season winding down, the Saints are coming into tonight's contest with a renewed sense of focus, and will look to build some momentum heading into the Frontier Conference postseason tournament next month in Great Falls.
In conjunction with St. Peter's Health, tonight's game will be Carroll's annual breast cancer awareness game, and fans attending are encouraged to wear pink to show support for those who have, or are currently battling breast cancer.
