Carroll Men Come Up One Point Shy in OT Loss at Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Basketball team fought for 65 minutes, but ultimately came up just one point short, falling 80-81 to Providence on Saturday in Great Falls.

The Fighting Saints (11-10, 5-5), searching for their fourth-consecutive win, could not quite finish off the University of Providence (13-10, 7-3), losing their first Overtime game of the season.

It was Carroll who got the early advantage. The Saints opened up a 10 point lead on the Argos midway through the opening half, but Providence would claw their way back within striking distance. Providence pulled within one point with less than five minutes remaining in the half, but Carroll would finish the half on a 9-4 run to carry a 39-33 lead into the halftime break.

Brendan Temple (Castle Rock, Colo. / SR) and Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / SO) combined for 27 first half points for the Saints.

The Saints would stretch their lead back to 10 with their first two possessions of the second half, but Providence would respond with a 15-1 run over the next four minutes to take control of the game.

Both teams would go on to exchange the lead over the rest of the second half. Carroll would take a four point lead with one minute remaining following an Andrew Cook and-one, but an untimely turnover on the next Saints possession would give the Argos a chance to tie. A pair of free throws by Eric Millner would tie the game at 69 and send the game into extra time.

Carroll would take a six point advantage at one point in overtime, but Providence continued to make clutch shots and keep things close. The Saints would fail to hit the front end of a one-and-one, and Providence would take advantage. Davien Harris-Williams would score the game's final four points and give Providence the 81-80 overtime win.

Brendan Temple had a monster game for the Saints, posting his second consecutive double-double with a team-high 29 points and 17 rebounds. Andrew Cook added 25 points to continue his hot streak. Jonny Hillman (Post Falls, Idaho / SR) finished with 10 points and six assists.

Davien Harris-WIlliams once again proved troublesome for the Saints, finishing with a game-high 33 points for the Argos.

Carroll will look to rebound next Thursday when they travel to Havre for their final tilt with MSU-Northern of the regular season.
