SPOKANE, Wash. - The Carroll Men's Soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against NCAA Division III Whitworth on Sunday evening in Spokane, Wash.
It was a quick turnaround for the Carroll Men today, playing less than 24 hours after a 3-1 loss against Whitman College on Saturday, with a much more palatable result today.
Carroll found themselves down early, when in the 14th minute, Whitworth's Dominic Gusman scored to put the Pirates on top 1-0.
In the 28th minute,
Rory Bloy (Johannesburg, South Africa / SR), who is chasing down Carroll's all-time goals scored record, put a ball low left of the keeper to tie the game up at 1-1, a score that would hold up until the break.
The second half got off to a rocky start for the Saints. Just three minutes into the half, Cole Friesen scored another Pirates goal, once again giving Whitworth a one-goal lead, 2-1.
In the 80th minute, Carroll's
Jack Bentson (Bozeman, Mont. / SR) and Birgir Gauti Stefansson (Gardabear, Iceland / SR) assisted on Bloy's second goal of the game, giving the Saints the equalizer, and final score 2-2.
The Carroll Men will return to Helena as they prepare for their Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season, starting with a trip to Corban and Bushnell on September 16 and 17.
