HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College Golf teams are set to host their lone home event of the season, the Carroll College Invitational, on Monday and Tuesday at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena.
The Saints enter the tournament off the heels of a pair of third-place team performances at the MSU-Northern Invite last week in Shelby.
With one event under their belt, the Carroll golfers feel prepared for the next two days of competition at their home track. Frontier Conference events are limited, and the Saints are looking forward to a strong week at home. Rocky Mountain College, Montana Tech, Providence, and MSU-Northern will all be in attendance this week.
"As a team, we are excited to host and play a familiar course," Said Head Coach Ben MacIntyre. "It's a great way to kick-off the Carroll College homecoming week, hosting the rest of the Conference just a few blocks from our campus."
The Women were paced last week by a pair of upperclassmen,
Katie Fagg (Missoula, Mont. / SR) and
Makayla Christiansen (Oakdale, Calif. / JR) who both finished tied for ninth-place.
Stella Claridge (Kalispell, Mont. / FR) and
Isa Tomazeli (Sao Paulo, Brazil / SO) finished back-to-back just a few strokes behind them, and look to improve off of a solid week one performance.
Echo Anderson will round out the Carroll five, with
Makayla Bury (Helena, Mont. / FR),
Megan Baxter (Thompson Falls, Mont. / SO), and
Abby Smith (Lake Tapps, Wash. / SO) playing the event as individuals.
The Women finished second at the Frontier Conference Championship last spring, and feel they have the pieces to compete once again with the additions to their program over the summer.
The Women will play a 36-hole event from Bill Roberts' Combo tees, with 18 being played on Monday, and the final 18 holes played on Tuesday.
On the Men's side, three Freshmen led carried the load for the Saints last week in Shelby.
Leo Werschay (St Augusta, Minn. / FR) was the top finisher for Carroll, finishing T-16.
Caleb Spangler (Havre, Mont. / FR), and
Kaden Matheny (Missoula, Mont. / FR) both had a good start to their collegiate careers and will look to climb the leader boards for the rest of the year.
Sam Conner (Salt Lake City, Utah / SO) and
Jaedon Lieberg (Helena, Mont. / SR) will round out the starting five for the Saints,
Jack Bentson (Bozeman, Mont. / SR) will participate as an individual for Carroll.
Consistency is key in golf, and something the Saints Men are addressing throughout their practice sessions. Carroll hopes that the home course advantage will help tighten the group's scores and bump them up the leader board.
The Men are playing a 54-hole event from Bill Roberts' Black tees, with 36 being played today and the final 18-holes tomorrow.
Both the Men and Women are playing five starters, with the top four scores counting towards the team total.
"Our players are very excited to see what they can do this week, and will do their best to perform well at the home tourney." Said MacIntyre.
Full leader boards including both team and individuals for the Women will be available tonight, be sure to visit
