Missoula, Mont. – Carroll Track & Field performed well against NCAA Division I, NAIA Frontier Conference, and NAIA Cascade Conference competition at the Tom Gage Invitational on Saturday.
For the Saints men,
Van Gottwals added a B Qualifier in the 800m with a 2.5 second personal record of 1:52.92.
James Normandeau also ran a significant personal best in the 1500m,
Zach Rector ran a PR in the 5000m, and
Timothy Sellars threw a personal record in the Shot Put.
Chad Hemsley won the 400m Hurdles,
Josh Malone won the High Jump,
Broder Thurston placed 2
nd in the 400m, Chris Abell placed 2
nd in the 110m Hurdles,
Shamrock Campbell placed 2
nd in the Triple Jump, and
Lee Walburn placed 3
rd in the 110m Hurdles. The Men's 4x400 won in their best time of the season and narrowly missed the National Qualifier.
On the women's side,
Madde Boles hit the B Standard in the High Jump and
Reghan Worley ran a personal best of 17:45 in the 5000m to notch a B Qualifier and 3
rd place finish.
Paige Baxstresser won the 400m,
Nikki Krueger placed 2
nd in the Shot Put,
Sophie Loveless placed 3
rd in the Triple Jump, and
Natalie Yocum placed 3
rd in the 800m.
Overall the men placed 3
rd as a team and 1
st of NAIA teams. The women were also 1
st of NAIA teams and placed 4
th overall.
"We're so proud of how these athletes closed out the season…especially our seniors," said Head Coach
Harry Clark. "There's so much time, effort, and focus that goes into this, and it was great to see some lifetime performances today."
Those Saints qualified for Nationals will continue training over the next several weeks. The NAIA Outdoor Championships will take place in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 25-27.
