Carroll Softball sweeps double-header against Argos

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Carroll Softball team swept Providence in a Cascade Conference double-header in Great Falls on Wednesday afternoon. Carroll won the first game 8-5 and the second game 11-7.

The day begun in exciting fashion, as Kirsten Norris came up to bat in the top of the first inning and slugged a three-run shot. That put Carroll up 3-0 to start the first game.

The Argos singled in a run of their own in the bottom of the first, then the Saints offense exploded. Anna Davidson hit a three-run homer in the top of the third inning, then Emma Hamilton added to the avalanche with an RBI single. Carroll took a 7-1 lead.

Providence would not go quietly as they narrowed the gap to 7-5, but the Saints added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and went on to win the first game of the day by a final of 8-5.

Kirsten Norris got the Saints going again in the first inning of game two, singling in Kenna Thomas to give Carroll a 1-0 lead.

The Argos posted a four spot in the bottom of the second inning, and the shootout was officially underway.

After being down 6-3 heading into the fifth inning, the Saints poured it on in the final three frames. Carroll drove in 8 runs to close the game out, headlined by two RBI doubles from Emma Hamilton, and secured the sweep with an 11-7 win.

The Saints will return home to Centennial Park this weekend for a Cascade Conference series against the University of British Columbia on Friday and Saturday.
