EUGENE, Ore. – The Carroll Softball split their first double-header of the weekend against Bushnell University on Friday, winning the first game 2-1 before losing the second game 5-1.
The day was off to a quiet start before Carroll finally opened the scoring in game one.
Anna Davidson hit a single through the left side to bring home
Amber Brewer in the top of the fourth inning to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Kenna Thomas joined in on the fun in the fifth inning, singling to left field to score fellow freshman
Ellie Koerber and giving Carroll a 2-0 lead.
The Beacons scored one run in the sixth inning, but
Abby Hanley kept her cool in the circle and the Saints went on to win the first game 2-1.
In game two, Bushnell jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning and added another in the fourth.
Down 2-0 in the fifth, the Saints answered when
Amber Countryman crossed home on a sacrifice fly by
Amber Brewer.
The Beacons put an exclamation point on the second game in the bottom of the fifth inning, however, scoring three runs. Two of those runs came on an RBI double and Bushnell would earn the split with a 2-1 victory.
These two teams will square off again on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. mountain time. The first game will be the rubber-match of the series and the second will go in the books as a non-conference game.
