Helena, Mont. – Saints Track & Field started the outdoor season with a bang at the Al Manuel Invite in Missoula, Mont. this Friday and Saturday.
The meet included tremendous weather and a competitive atmosphere filled with NCAA Division I athletes from Montana State, University of Montana, and Eastern Washington University and Frontier Conference foes from Montana Tech, Montana Western, Rocky Mountain College, and University of Providence. The Carroll men placed 1
st out of Frontier teams and 3
rd overall ahead of Division I Eastern Washington. The women placed 2
nd after Montana Tech and 5
th overall.
Seven Saints placed in the Top 8 individually on the women's side, and fifteen men (or men's relays) placed Top 8. The Top 4 places were awarded points in the meet, and many Carroll athletes contributed to the overall team scores.
Chad Hemsley (400 Hurdles),
Josh Malone (High Jump), and the Men's 4x400 Relay won events.
Broder Thurston (400m), Chris Abell (110 Hurdles),
Brett Glaser (Long Jump), and the Men's 4x100 Relay placed 2
nd.
Cormac Benn was 3
rd in the Triple Jump and
Lee Walburn 4
th in the 110 Hurdles.
Erika Arthur placed 2
nd in her debut 3000m Steeplechase,
Nikki Krueger placed 3
rd in the Shot Put,
Reghan Worley placed 4
th in the 5000m, and
Madde Boles placed 4
th in the High Jump.
Hemsley's run and Krueger's throw earned each athlete the NAIA National Qualifying B Standard. Several other athletes and relays narrowly missed qualifying for nationals, and the Saints will be on the hunt for A and B standards over the remainder of the spring.
Although the season is just beginning, multiple Carroll athletes achieved personal records. This included Timmy Sellars (Shot Put),
Audrey Brown (Javelin – Collegiate Personal Record),
Sophie Loveless (Triple Jump – Collegiate Personal Record),
Brett Glaser (110 Hurdles),
Paige Baxstresser (200m),
Elias Hill (200m),
Broder Thurston (400m),
Van Gottwals (800m),
Kate Picanco (800m),
Jonah Fisher (1500m),
James Normandeau (1500m),
Daniel Koralewski (1500m),
Spencer Swaim (5000m),
Clayton Ryerson (5000m), and
Nicole Morgen (5000m).
"This was such a fun day," said Head Coach
Harry Clark. "It's so great to have our whole group competing and to feel like everything is back to normal. Everyone competed well so we're excited to see where we can go from here."
The Saints return to the track next weekend at the Yellowjackets/Battlin' Bears Invite in Billings, Mont.
