NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Carroll Women's Basketball team won their first-round matchup against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 69-50 in New Orleans on Friday afternoon.
It was a slow start for the Saints as they saw some early offensive struggles. Still, they led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Through two quarters of play, the Saints held a lead of 30-28, despite turning the ball over 11 times in the first half.
The second half was a different story for Carroll as they turned on the jets and outscored the Blue Raiders 22-9 in the third quarter.
The Saints continued to build throughout a strong second half, on their way to a 19-point opening round victory.
Danielle Wagner led the charge for the Saints, scoring 22 points on 8 of 11 shooting.
Kamden Hilborn also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points.
Lindsey Wilson was led by Maleigha Oldham, who scored 13 points.
Carroll, who is the three-seed in the Naismith Bracket, now advances to the second round to face six-seed Loyola (La.) with a trip to Sioux City, Iowa on the line. That game will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. MST.
Loyola is currently 23-5 on the season. The Wolf Pack, who were champions of the SSAC, put together a convincing 78-40 win over Menlo on Friday.
