HELENA, Mont. - The No. 11 Carroll Women's Basketball team closed out 2022 with a bang, defeating Briercrest College 97-32 at the Carroll College PE Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Saints (11-4, 2-0) were the far superior team on Saturday, racing past Briercrest to wrap up 2022 and usher Carroll into the new year.
Carroll jumped all over the Clippers to begin the game, the Saints raced out to a 20 point advantage before Briercrest could put points on the board. The Saints would carry a 24 point lead into the second quarter.
More of the same would be in store for the Saints to close out the first half. Carroll would outscore the Clippers 26-7 in the second quarter to carry a 50-12 lead into the break.
Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / SR), who appeared to be the most dominant player on the court, would reach a career milestone early in the third quarter. Pickens would score point number 1,000 in her Carroll career with six minutes remaining in the third quarter.Â
Pickens joined fellow Saint
Sienna Swannack (Nine Mile Falls, Wash. GR) as 2022-23 Saints to reach the 1,000 point plateau.
The fourth quarter would be dominated by Carroll underclassmen, with
Meagan Karstetter (Moses Lake, Wash. / FR) scoring 11 points in the final frame.
Pickens, the newest member of Carroll's 1,000 point club, led all scorers with 22 points, alongside three rebounds and three steals.
Kyndall Keller (Havre, Mont. / JR) and
Maddie Geritz (Boise, Idaho / R-SR) each added 15 points of their own.
Carroll's all-time assists leader,
Kamden Hilborn (Clancy, Mont. / GR) added 9 assists to her career tally.
Dori Sunderland led the Clippers as the only player scoring in double digits with 11 points.
