Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Shorthanded No. 24 Saints Men Fall to Menlo, 69-53

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The No. 24 Carroll Men's Basketball team fell at the hands of Menlo College, 69-53 at the Cactus Classic in Chandler, Arizona on Monday.

The Fighting Saints (7-5, 1-1), playing without their two seniors due to injury, could not keep pace with Menlo College (12-3) this afternoon.

Carroll found itself in an early hole. Menlo started the game out on an 11-0 run in the first three minutes, with the Saints scrambling to get things moving.

Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / SO), who was named Frontier Conference Player of the Week earlier today, finally got the Saints on the board with a layup nearly four minutes into the game.

Menlo would eventually stretch their first half lead to as large as 16 points in the first half, but Carroll would eventually settle in, and begin to chip away.

The Saints would score the final five points of the half to bring the game within two scores at the half, 32-27.

Garrett Long (Wenatchee, Wash. / SO) would score out of the break to cut the Menlo lead to just three points, but that would be as close as the Saints would get for the remainder of the game.

Carroll simply could not get shots to fall offensively, and struggled to get stops on the defensive front in the second half.

Menlo would grow their lead as large as 26 points in the second half. A strong effort from the Carroll bench in the back end of the second half would bring Carroll within striking distance, but time would run out on any attempt of a Saints comeback.

Isaiah Moore (Fairfield, Calif. / FR) and Andrew Cook led the way in a down Carroll scoring affair, each finishing with 12 points. Garrett Long scored a season-high 11 points, and Gui Pedra (Sao Paulo, Brazil / JR) scored eight points off the bench.

Four players for Menlo finished with double-digit points, led by 15 points each from Patrick Ryan, Landon Seamen, and Kaito Williams.

Carroll will round out play the 2022 Cactus Classic tomorrow at 12 p.m. when they square off with Vanguard at the Coyote Center.
