Carroll Women Drop Exhibition at BYU

PROVO, Utah. - The No. 9 Carroll College Women's Basketball team dropped an exhibition contest to NCAA Division I BYU on Wednesday, 71-47.

Carroll (4-3), after winning their fourth game of the year in a one-sided affair on Monday, played their second exhibition game of the year against NCAA Division I BYU. The Fighting Saints were unable to keep pace with the Cougars, falling 71-47.

The first quarter was a promising one for the Saints. The Cougars took a 15-8 lead heading into the second quarter, mainly due to Carroll's 0-8 shooting from three-point range in the first. Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / SR) showed that she was every bit as talented as anyone on the floor, scoring six points and getting involved in seemingly every play, offensive or defensive for the Saints.

The Saints would outscore the Cougars 14-13 in the second, cutting the lead to just six heading into halftime, 28-22 in favor of BYU.

The Cougars would pull away in the second half, however, mainly off the heels of a 26 point third quarter.

Carroll would again hang tough in the fourth, but the third quarter explosion from BYU would prove too hard to top, and Carroll would fall, 71-47.

Jamie Pickens, the Preseason Frontier Conference Co-Player of the year, had an outstanding day for the Saints, finishing tied for a game-high 17 points and leading the Saints in rebounding with six. Kyndall Keller (Havre, Mont. / JR) was the next leading scorer for the Saints with eight points.

Carroll was heavily out-rebounded in the game, with BYU dominating the glass with 41 rebounds to Carroll's 22.

Nani Falatea led the way for the Cougars, finishing with 17 points. Lauren Gustin finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Carroll will now get ready for their first Frontier Conference game of the year, when they welcome No. 23 Montana Western to the PE Center on December 1 at 5 p.m.
