No. 16 Carroll Basketball Gets Bounce Back Win Over Dakota Wesleyan, 78-71

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The No. 16 Carroll College Men's Basketball team picked up a win to close out their weekend at the Small College Basketball Champions Classic, beating Dakota Wesleyan 78-71 on Saturday afternoon.

After a disappointing loss on Friday, Carroll (4-1) bounced back on Saturday, picking up a win over a tough Dakota Wesleyan team in their final game of the SCB Champions Classic.

It was a much better start to the day for the Fighting Saints on Saturday. Carroll scored the first six points of the game, and carried a 17-11 lead midway through the first half.

Dakota Wesleyan would tighten things up heading into the half, however, cutting the Carroll lead to just five points, 31-26 at the break.

While Carroll still did not shoot all too well from the field in the opening period (37.1 percent) they heavily out-rebounded the Tigers (27-15).

Dakota Wesleyan would narrow the gap to just two points with a little over 13 minutes left in the second half, but the Saints would squander the comeback effort throughout the remainder of the game, closing out the win 78-71 to get their fourth victory of the year.

Brendan Temple (Castle Rock, Colo. / SR) had an outstanding day for the Saints, finishing with his first double-double of the year, 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / SO) continued the stellar start to his Sophomore campaign, finishing with 23 points to lead all scorers. Cook was also named to the All-Tournament team, the lone Saint recognized.

Jonny Hillman (Post Falls, Idaho. / SR) and Brayden Koch (Helena, Mont. / FR) also finished with double digits in points for the Saints, scoring 16 and 10, respectively.

Nick Wittler led the Tigers in scoring, finishing with 15 points along with three rebounds.

Carroll will now have a significant break before their next matchup, the Frontier Conference opener, when they host Montana Western at the PE Center on December 1.
