MARION, Ind. - The No. 4 Carroll College Women's Basketball team bounced back from a loss yesterday, winning a Top-10 Matchup against No. 7 Marian on Saturday afternoon in Marion, Ind., 69-61.
The Saints (3-3) bounced back from a tough loss to No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan last night, earning a statement victory over a previously unbeaten No. 7 Marian (5-1) on Saturday.
Carroll shot the ball well in the first quarter (57.1 percent), but thanks to some sharpshooting from Marian (64.3 percent), the Saints were only able to carry a one point advantage into the second quarter.
Sienna Swannack (Nine Mile Falls, Wash. / GR) scored seven of her game-high 22 points in the second period, and Carroll held the Knights to just 11 points in the quarter to take a 35-31 lead into the halftime break.
The Saints would break things open in the third quarter, with a balanced offensive attack leading to team total of 69.2 percent shooting from the field, and extending their lead to 57-43.
Carroll would weather a late-game Marian push and secure a big time bounce back win, two time zones away, 69-61, to get back to .500 on the year.
Swannack led all scorers with 22 points, and Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / SR) finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
The Knights were led by Abbey McNally, who finished with 17 points, followed by Aliyah Evans' 15 points.
"It was a big day for us," said Head Coach Rachelle Sayers "We struggled to shoot the ball wth any consistency against Indiana Wesleyan, and it was good to see that thing go in. This was a huge trip for us. We won't get better without playing teams that challenge us both mentally and physically to be better. I am proud of the girls' response today."
The Saints will head back to Montana and begin preparations for their next home game, a return of the "field trip game" next Monday at 11 a.m. (MST) at the Carroll College PE Center.
