Carroll Football falls to Eastern Oregon in defensive battle

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College football team fell to Eastern Oregon on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 10-7 at Nelson Stadium.

It was a defensive battle the whole way. With a lot of defensive fireworks, there were zero points scored in the first half. The Eastern Oregon defense turned Carroll over on a sack fumble in the first half and Carroll's defense turned EOU over twice in the first half on interceptions from TJ Abraham and Micah Ans.

Coming out of the half time break, Eastern Oregon broke the tie. Following an interception, the Mountaineers took advantage of good field position and went 27 yards in four plays capped off by a Kai Quinn 13-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Thomas.

The Mountaineers kept the momentum going through the third quarter with a 30-yard field goal off the foot of Zachary Cahill. Just like that, after a scoreless first half, Eastern had jumped out to a 10-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Saints refused to go down without a fight. Following a Carroll punt, the Mountaineers had the ball on their own 13-yard line. Kai Quinn dropped back to pass, got sacked by Tucker Jones, and fumbled the ball backwards into the end zone. Austin Bedke jumped on it for a Carroll touchdown and just like that the Saints were within three points.

Carroll had a couple more opportunities to close the gap, but in the end, they fell short and lost the game by a final score of 10-7.

With their win today, Eastern Oregon is now 3-0 and they are the lone remaining undefeated team in the Frontier Conference.

The Saints fall to 1-2 on the year and will return to the gridiron next weekend as they travel to Ashland, Ore., to face off with 1-2 Southern Oregon.
