Carroll Men's Basketball upsets William Penn in round of 16

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The 15th seeded Carroll College Men's Basketball team defeated William Penn, the number two seed, in the round of 16 in dominating fashion 85-62 on Friday night in the NAIA National Tournament at Municipal Auditorium.

Both teams started the game out slow offensively, but it was William Penn who jumped out to an early lead. Facing an 18-10 deficit, the Saints went on a 30-12 run to close the first half. At half time, Carroll led 40-30.

In the second half, the Saints dominated. Carroll was relentless on the defensive end, and shared the ball to create good looks on the offensive end which has been their recipe for success so far this season.

The Saints maintained a double digit lead throughout the majority of the second half en route to a 85-62 victory.

Leading the way for the Saints was Jovan Sljivancanin, a junior forward from Belgrade, Serbia. Sljivancanin finished the game with 20 points and 5 rebounds.

Dennis Flowers III, a sophomore guard from Woodland Hills, Calif., also had an excellent game, tallying 19 points.

With this victory, the Saints will move on to the round of eight to face off with SAGU (Texas). SAGU is the number seven seed in the tournament, and is coming off of a 90-85 victory on Friday night against 10th seeded Morningside (Iowa).
