HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Women's Soccer team fell to Eastern Oregon in their Cascade Collegiate Conference opener on Sunday afternoon at Nelson Stadium by a final score of 2-0.
Eastern Oregon scored their first goal in the 27th minute, courtesy of Cailin Koupal. Kana Mateaki had the assist, and the Mountaineers got out to a 1-0 lead.
In the first half, the Saints and the Mountaineers both totaled six shots. Koupal's goal was still the only one scored by either side in the first 45 minutes.
To start the second half, the scoring remained quiet on both sides. Then in the 72nd minute, Mackinley Gregus found the back of the net to put the Mountaineers up 2-0. That was the last goal scored as Eastern Oregon was able to hold on for the win.
With this loss, Carroll is now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Cascade Conference. Eastern Oregon now has a record of 5-0 this season, and 3-0 in conference play.
The Saints and the Mountaineers will go at it again tomorrow at 12 p.m. at Nelson Stadium as Carroll will look to hand EOU their first loss of the year. You can stream the action at https://www.youtube.com/c/carrollathletics/featured
