LEWISTON, Idaho -- The Carroll College Women's Basketball team's journey through the 2020-21 season came to an end on Saturday night, as they suffered a loss to Lewis-Clark State 76-67.
The Warriors were able to jump on the Saints out of the gate, getting out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the cold spell continued for the Saints as they struggled to find the bottom of the net. At the end of the first half, Carroll faced an 11-point deficit.
The Saints came out firing in the second half and got the momentum on their side as the shots began to fall. After outscoring LC State 24-18 in the third quarter, Carroll had cut the Warrior lead down to 50-45 heading into the fourth.
After fighting hard to come back, LC State managed to hold off the Saints and win the game by a final score of 76-67.
Leading all scorers with 27 points was Kiara Burlage of LC State. Burlage, a senior forward from Columbia Falls, Mont., also added seven rebounds and four assists for the Warriors.
For the Saints, it was
Jamie Pickens who had the hot hand. Pickens, a sophomore forward from Helena, scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
It was undoubtedly a heartbreaking way for this Carroll team to end the season, but it was a special journey for Head Coach
Rachelle Sayers and this group of Saints. They officially end the year with a record of 21-3.
