Carroll Softball splits Saturday double-header with EOU

HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Softball team came out of this weekend having not only split games Friday afternoon with Eastern Oregon, but also split games with them on Saturday afternoon. Only the first of Saturday's contests counted towards conference competition.

Game one was a tough one for the Saints as they fell 15-1 to the mountaineers and had a difficult time getting the bats going.

Game two, however, much resembled Friday's shootout and the Saints were able to find their form at the plate. The Saints got off to a hot start with a five run first, but then faced a 7-6 deficit heading into the bottom half of the fourth. They were able to respond with a four run fourth and then a six run sixth to separate themselves from the Mountaineers.

Haley Kampka and Sarah Conway led the Saints' charge at the plate. Kampka was 2-2 with six RBIs and a walk, while Conway went 2-3 with four RBIs and a walk.

Sarah Jenkins allowed only one earned run in three innings of work in relief on the mound, which helped the Saints hold off the Mountaineers from making another run at a comeback late in game two.

After today's games, the Saints are now 4-11 on the season and 1-5 in the Cascade Conference. Eastern Oregon is now 7-11 on the year and 4-2 in Cascade competition.

Up next for the Saints, they will travel to Kirkland, Wash. to play Northwest in back to back double-headers next weekend.
