HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Football team secured their second straight win on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Stadium, defeating MSU-Northern by a final score of 34-0.
Early in the ball game, both defenses came to play. As the Saints and Lights continued to exchange stops,
Rex Irby picked off Devonte Armstrong deep in Northern territory. Carroll was unable to find the end zone, but
Carson Gorton knocked in a field goal with 3:46 left in the first quarter to put the Saints up 3-0.
The Saints took advantage of a short field once again in the second quarter.
John Thomson blocked a punt to set them up on the Northern 21 yard-line. Four plays later,
Jack Prka tossed a four-yard touchdown to
Jaden Harrison to put Carroll up 10-0 with 5:08 left in the first half.
Going into half time, the Saints found themselves on the Lights' 40 yard-line with 17 seconds on the clock.
Jack Prka dropped back to throw, dodged a couple of defensive linemen, then rolled to his left and launched the ball into the air.
Tony Collins was waiting for it in the end zone as he leaped over a Northern defender and hauled in the touchdown.
At half time, Carroll led 18-0.
On the opening drive of the second half, Northern was approaching midfield. On third and long, Armstrong fumbled the ball and it was picked up and returned 40 yards to the house by
Cameron Pruitt. Just like that, the Saints' lead was extended to 25-0.
The next Carroll possession,
Duncan Kraft joined in on the fun and scored from 44 yards out. The Saints led 31-0 with 7:37 left in the third.
The final Carroll score came with 4:40 left in the third quarter as
Carson Gorton made a 25- yard field goal to extend the Saints' lead to 34-0.
From there, the Saints held strong on defense and ran the clock out the rest of the way to win the game 34-0.
Duncan Kraft had yet another incredible game. He ran for 155 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries.
Northern wide receiver Tyrese Rios had a productive day, recording 77 receiving yards on six catches.
The Lights are now 0-6 on the season. Carroll advances to 3-3 with the win as they get ready for a bye week before heading to Billings to take on the conference leading Rocky Mountain College.
