HELENA, Mont. -- The No. 6-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints will look to extend their road success as they travel to face No. 25 Providence in Great Falls on Saturday and Sunday.
The games will be the seventh and eighth consecutive road games the Saints (10-1, 4-0 Frontier Conference) will have played.
"I don't think we have any road fatigue," Saints coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "Without fans, there is really no home court advantage, so it is just another game for us. We have been on the road all season, so I think the players are in a routine and understand what needs to get done. I think our experience has definitely helped, and since we haven't been in school since Thanksgiving, it is actually kind of nice to have a change of pace." Â
If there's any silver lining to going on the road against Providence, it may be that the Argonauts are relatively untested this season. Providence did not begin playing basketball until January, meaning the Argonauts have only logged two games so far this season. The Argonauts opened the season with a split of road games at Montana Tech, winning the first matchup 85-81 before falling 65-51 a night later.Â
"I think having had so many games has definitely benefited us," Sayers said. "The only way you will know how your team will respond in a tight game, or in the heat of the moment, is to be in those, so the games we have played thus far have really helped our team grow and improve. Â But, on the flip side, playing against a team like Providence who hasn't played until this week is tough too. I know they are going to be really excited to get back on the court, to play at home and will be up for our game. I think all teams are really approaching each game as a blessing, so I anticipate this game, like all, will be a great game."Â
Emilee Maldonado and Parker Esary lead the Argonauts in scoring at 17.5 points per game.Â
The Saints enter the game with one of the best defenses in the NAIA, allowing 55.6 points per night (No. 14 in NAIA) while holding the No. 7-ranked total rebound defense at 29.7 per game.Â
The Saints enter the game with three players averaging over 10 points per game, led by senior
Danielle Wagner's 13.9. Wagner also ranks No. 20 in the NAIA with her 51% mark from the three-point mark.Â
Senior
Christine Denny scores 12.5 per game, while sophomore
Jamie Pickens adds another 11.9 points per game.
Sienna Swannack is close by with 9.5 points per game.Â
The Saints will look to keep their Frontier Conference record perfect on Saturday with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m.Â
