HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints women's basketball team built a 15-point lead by halftime but a stagnant second half allowed the Providence Argonauts to seize control and upset the home team in the Frontier Conference Tournament semifinals. Providence (20-12) won 73-66 on Saturday in the PE Center.
The Saints (21-10) looked like they might blow the Argonauts out in the first half. Carroll surged in the second quarter, knocking down 11-of-16 shots in the period (69%).
But the Saints scored just six field goals the rest of the way. Carroll shot 3-for-6 in the third quarter and 3-for-18 in the fourth quarter (17%).
Christine Denny led the Saints with 21 points, while
Kamden Hilborn added 15 and
Emerald Toth finished with 10.
The Argonauts outrebounded the Saints 40-29.
The Saints will await their national tournament seeding, which will be revealed on March 6 at 5 p.m. MST via the NAIA's Facebook page.
