HELENA, Mont. -- The Fighting Saints defeated Evergreen State 1-0 on Friday afternoon in their Cascade Collegiate Conference opener at Nelson Stadium.
The lone goal was scored via a header in the 80th minute by
Santiago Morazzani off of a
Ben Dagg assist.
The Saints controlled the tempo for the majority of the game outshooting the Geoducks 21-12.
Saints goalie
Kaden Connor recorded seven saves to earn the shutout.
Coach
Doug Mello commended the Saint's effort in the victory.
"We missed chance after chance, but that's soccer I guess," Mello said. The biggest thing is we stuck to the plan and continued to pressurize them, and we got what we deserved. Today was a great start to conference play, and we move towards Sunday's game healthy and ready for another battle."
With the victory, the Saints move to 2-2-1 and 1-0 in Cascade Conference play. Carroll has a quick turnaround with another home game on Sunday at Nelson Stadium at 3:30 p.m. against Northwest University.
