HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Saints earned four new qualifiers for nationals and saw a slew of personal records set on Saturday in what became a rainy MSU Open in Bozeman, Montana.
The weather held up until the final few moments of the meet, cutting the 4x400 relay and men's discus short.Â
"You can tell the team is really coming along," Saints coach
Harry Clark said. "We've been waiting for the weather to improve. Now that we're getting more time on the track, our performances are getting better. They just went after it today."Â
Multi-event All-American
Josh Malone qualified for nationals in the long jump, surpassing the NAIA A-Standard with a mark of 7.25 meters.Â
Junior thrower
Hope Welhaven hit the NAIA A-Standard in the javelin with a mark of 40.51 meters.Â
Nikki Krueger hit the NAIA B-Standard in the shot put with a toss of 13.51 meters, missing the A-Standard by .04 meters.Â
Freshman jumper
Shamrock Campbell earned the NAIA A-Standard in the triple jump with a mark of 14.69 meters. He previously held the NAIA B-Standard in the event.Â
Freshman hurdler
Chad Hemsley came with a tenth of second of hitting the NAIA B-Standard in the 400-meter hurdles.Â
The Saints' sole home meet of the season is next weekend at Vigilante Stadium.Â
