Carroll softball drops two to No. 9 OIT

The Carroll College softball team forced 10 innings in tie the first game, but eventually fell in a doubleheader to No. 9 Oregon Tech.

The Saints (9-14, 2-9 Cascade Collegiate Conference) fell behind 3-0 to OIT in the first inning, but rallied in the sixth inning. Each side added a few runs in the middle of the game before the Saints exploded for four runs in the sixth.

Amber Brewer slapped a RBI double to start the Saints' scoring spree. Megan McCormick popped up to right field to bring in a second run. Brittany Smith knocked a two RBI double to score two more.

Each side had their chances in extra innings.

The Saints put a runner on in each of the extra innings, but couldn't push a runner across the plate.

The Owls (20-10, 8-3) sealed the 10-inning thriller when Shelby Hotchkiss hit a RBI single to end the game.

Brewer led the Saints in Game One with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate.

Carroll jumped out to a two-run lead in the second game, but quickly saw OIT pile up six runs in response.

The Saints scored when Courtney Schroeder reached on an error by the pitcher and was credited with an RBI and then another run came across the plate.

Holding a 2-0 lead, OIT wasted little time to answer. OIT hit two home runs to bring four runs in, smacked a sacrifice fly and and then scored on an RBI single to grab a 6-2 lead.

The Saints got one back in the second inning when Anna ApRoberts singled and an error in the outfield allowed a run across the plate.

It would be all the Saints could muster until the fifth inning when a wild pitch brought another run across the plate for Carroll.

The series resumes on Saturday with another doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
