HELENA, Mont. -- After a win against ranked NCAA D-III team Whitworth, the Fighting Saints men's basketball team prepares to take on their first Frontier Conference team on Tuesday, December 3.
"It will be the Frontier Conference opener for both teams so people who are familiar with this rivalry know the intensity of this matchup" Saints coach
Kurt Paulson said.
The Saints play the Montana Tech Orediggers at 7:30 PM in the PE Center. Carroll currently sits at a record of 4-2 after its two losses to Hope International (73-64) and Westmont (73-69) during a California road trip.
Montana Tech, 4-3, has had a rollercoaster of a season thus far. After beating the Griz of University of Montana (74-72), and losing to two skilled NAIA D-II teams -- No. 5 ranked College of Idaho (90-84, 76-74), and No. 17 ranked Southern Oregon (83-73) -- the Orediggers seem to be trying to find their consistent footing.
Tech has been known for its physical and aggressive play and that doesn't seem to be changing.
"This game will be extremely physical as Tech tries to take you out of your offense by denials and pressure defense,'' Paulson said.
The Orediggers are led in scoring by junior guard Sindou Diallo who is averaging 20.6 points per game. Besides Diallo, Tech has five other players averaging over 10 ppg. The Saints will be focusing on putting a body on Tech's Taylor England who is averaging 14 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
The Saints are led by
Dane Warp's 19.3 points and
Jovan Sljivancanin's 19.2 points per game.
Last season Carroll went 2-1 against the Orediggers, winning both of the games at home.
The team is looking forward to the great support of Carroll community.
"We are hoping for a large home crowd and our players really need the campus and community support to carry us,'' said Paulson.
The game is set to tip at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on Carroll Athletic's YouTube page.
