HELENA, Mont. -- The No. 7-ranked Fighting Saints battled closely in the second half, but a slow first half doomed Carroll College against Montana State on Monday in Bozeman, Montana.
MSU won 67-33.
"We played hard, but it was a perfect storm of crowd noise, some tough shooting and adverse travel conditions," Saints coach
Rachelle Sayers said.
The Saints scored 13 points in the first half, while the Bobcats jumped out to a 45-13 lead by the half. The Saints generated high quality, including a slew of layup attempts, but couldn't find a rhythm early on Monday morning.
In the second half, the Bobcats won narrowly, outscoring Carroll 22-20.
The Saints shot 22 percent in the game, while the Bobcats hit 44 percent of their tries.
The Saints did force the Bobcats into 16 turnovers, while limiting their own to 14.
Dani Wagner led the Saints with 11 points and six rebounds, while
Christine Denny added nine points and six rebounds.
Carroll travels to Spokane this weekend to take on Whitworth on Nov. 15 and Whitman on Nov. 16.
